Poplar Springs Farm raises registered Hereford and commercial Hereford cows.  Majority of their mother cows are bred to an Hereford bull to produce a red hide calf that is more desired in our area.  Our cows are primarily grass fed.  The mother cows are over 90% grass fed.  They receive a free choice mineral along with pasture and hay.  The calves are raised on milk from their dam (mother cow) and pasture until they are 5-7 months old.  After that we start feeding some grain, however, the animals still are primarily eating grass and hay.
