Direct Beef Sales

 

Some of our calves that are raised on Poplar Springs go to our Direct Beef Sales.  These animals are raised on a primarily grass diet until they are yearlings, then we introduce grain after we separate them from their damns. They are on pasture all their life and we provide hay, from our own fields, during the cold months. The grain is supplied to increase the rate of gain and to help with the marbling of the meat.  We DO NOT use hormones for feed efficiency or increased growth.  Our animals are raised on the land and are fed a balanced diet.

We start taking orders in the late winter through end of summer time.  Our animals finish within the summer and fall time frame.

Plus Processing Fees ($650 average per cow) includes slaughter, butching into desired cuts, and vacuum sealing)

 

One cow averages 500lbs of meat.

60 lbs ground beef

This is the ADVERAGE yeild from a quarter cow. The number and type of cuts will very depending on how your cow is broken up.

How Our Direct Beef Sales Work:

 

We sell the animal to you live as a whole cow or in a shared half. Then we are responsible to raise it till it is finished, and ready for slaughter.  Then we have it transported to a local processor for you and you work with them on how you want it cut up and packaged. The processing fees are around $600-700 per cow. If you do not want to use a local processer we will take it to, then you are responsible to transport it yourself.

 

Our fees are based on the cow sale price.  After you buy your portion of the animal, you also have the processing fees from the butcher to pay.

 

Meat PickUp Package:

Half: 1500     Whole:3000

If you do not want to deal with the processor or picking up the meat, we will do it for you.  However, the animal will be processed at Country Road Meats in Amelia County, Va.  The price for this job package includes the cost of the cow, processing fee, us communicating with the processor, and our time picking up the meat.  You then are responsible to pick your beef up at the farm within about 12 hours.  The meat will be kept in coolers until you pick it up.
